With the labor intensive demands of ecommerce and more, the labor situation in distribution is getting to almost crisis proportions in some markets.
Technology such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) have always been focused on reducing labor costs, but now the emphasis is starting to shift to reducing the need for hard-to-find labor, says Gartner analyst Dwight Klappich, in this latest edition of our "Klappich’s Corner" feature.
Ditto with Labor Management Systems, Klappich says, where labor planning and scheduling are starting to eclipse productivity gains as the top focus areas.
