Several analyst companies, notably Gartner, have occasionally published software "maturity curves" that position different supply chain software applications along some progression from "new to market" to highly mature.
Forrester and analyst Patrick Connaughton have recently provided its perspective in this area in a recent research note titled Forrester TechRadar™: The
Extended Supply Chain
Application Ecosystem.
Connaughton ranks 19 separate categories of supply chain software along a maturity curve that ranges from the "Creation" stage to "Decline." His take on where different software applications stack up currently is illustrated below.
One thing interesting and different about the Forrester approach is that it also positions the applications on different curves along the maturity level depending on how much user success and benefits they have created.
These types of charts are inherently somewhat controversial, and obviously others may have very different views, so please keep that in mind when evaluating this analysis.
