It's
good to think Green, but there is often
also a real cost that must be balanced.
That's the pont of recent
research by the National Association of
Manufacturers (NAM) regarding the likely
impact of proposed climate change legislation,
America's Climate Security Act of 2007 (S.
2191), authored by U.S. Senators Joseph
Lieberman and John Warner. The U.S. Senate
is expected to debate the legislation in
June 2008.
As the chart below shows,
NAM says, if passed as proposed, the law
would significantly reduce US manufacturing
output.
The "Low" and
"High" costs are meant to represent
the range of possible outcomes from the
legislation. While obviously NAM represents
a certain set of interests, it's important
to look at Green issues and decisions from
a true 360-degree perspective.
